May Faire 2021 “Celebrating Our Mathews Water Heritage” will take place May 2 on the Courthouse Green. Our 4 th annual Spring Heritage Festival will be a tribute to the county’s oystermen, fishermen, crabber, clammers and those who plied the waters. Mathews County enjoys a rich, nationally recognized history of
brave watermen and seamen which will be celebrated by the community. The theme honors the county’s water legacy and the people who worked the water.

“Conservations with our Watermen” will be a featured segment of the day’s activities. At the historic Court House, a group of experienced watermen who plied the waters, will share their stories with the audience. Also featured are the traditional May Pole Dance, performed by the Bayside Youth Ballet, local craftsmen booths, demonstrations of a seagoing nature, and antique boats will be displayed on the local street.

Inside the Mathews Historical Museum at 200 Main Street will be a Mariners’ art show as well as model boats. May Faire began as an annual event in 2017and has each year focuses on a segment of the county’s history.
